COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update May 17
Effective May 17, 2021 TSI will follow the CDC & Governor of VA guidelines allowing fully-vaccinated individuals to forego wearing a mask when entering the facility. Those who are unvaccinated or not fully-vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear a mask. Effective May 28, facility capacity limits return to normal in the facility.
We encourage all to continue to maintain social distance when possible, avoid sharing equipment and refrain from attending any team events if not feeling well or have a temperature. We will continue sanitation procedures adopted over the past year. Should you or your child be exposed or test positive, we do ask that you advise Chris McKnight so we can continue to follow the processes with respect to Covid set earlier in the year to keep teams safe.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update April 9
Effective Monday, April 12, 2021, we will make the following revision to the TSI Covid policy as it relates to parents being able to have access to the field house to view a child’s lesson or class. We will allow one parent to go to the back with their child, as long as we are within capacity limits. The front desk will advise if access is current limits allow and we ask that parents understand that access is not guaranteed. A face covering is required and parents are asked to maintain social distancing. We reserve the right to roll this back if conditions change again but are hopeful that this is a welcome step forward in returning to normal.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update February 3
TSI Policy requiring the wearing of masks at all times when indoors will remain in effect until further notice. This decision is based on our initiative to keep everyone playing in preparation for the Spring Season.
We would like to share some good information which was recently provided by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Sports Medicine Advisory Committee(SMAC) with regard to new guidance based on historical data gathered from athletes participating in sports.
New Guidance Includes:
- Prevailing community infection rates appear to be the strongest predictor for athletes being infected and proven cases of direct COVID-19 transmission during athletics remain relatively rare.
- Participants in non-contact sports show lower rates of COVID-19 infection than those in contact sports
- Participants in outdoor sports show lower rates of infection than those in indoor sports, and using face masks for indoor sports results in similar COVID-19 transmission rates to those seen in outdoor sports.
Given the current high community Covid rates coupled with our indoor facility, we feel continuing our request to wear covering while inside will protect us all. We will continue to screen everyone at the entrance and follow CDC guidelines. We appreciate your continued support as we work together to continue to move forward in a safe manner.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update October 21
Needs to be noted that CDC has now cautioned against requiring a 2nd negative test after the 14-day quarantine. This is due to number of false positives received from persons still having antibodies in system. Active transmission cannot occur after 14 days. CDC suggests that candidate must be symptom free which could be provided thru a doctor’s note to TSI. Moving forward this will replace the original TSI protocol regarding return to play.
Again, we require all coaches to have a face covering and strongly urge all members to do the same and also practice social distancing and hand washing to prevent the spread of Covid 19.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update October 7
TSI Covid Mitigation Procedures
We want to provide an update to TSI’s Covid-19 mitigation procedures. These have been developed in reliance and based on guidance from the CDC and the Henrico County Covid-19 Hotline (804-205-3501).
- Any player/parent/coach/staff experiencing any of the following symptoms
within the past 24 hours may not attend any team event or visit the TSI facility:
- Fever of 100 degrees (Fahrenheit) or higher, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, Flu-like symptoms (headache, muscle aches, chills), loss of taste or smell, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or increased congestion/runny nose.
- Any player/parent/coach/staff who has been in contact with anyone (including family members) awaiting results from testing or has tested positive for Covid-19, may not attend any team event or visit the TSI facility.
- If a player notifies a coach that he/she was exposed to someone with Covid-19 or has tested positive for Covid-19. They may NOT attend any team event or visit the facility for a period of 14 days from the date of contact (in the event of an exposure) or positive test result, whichever should occur first. In order to return to TSI, a negative test will be required.
- Upon being notified that player has tested positive for Covid-19, TSI will provide a general notification to the teammates (keeping the Covid positive player’s name confidential) and suspend all team activities for 14 days. In such case, TSI requires that all teammates be tested for COVID-19. A doctor’s note with negative test will be required to return to the team events. Again, the optimum time to have the test is at least 5 days after exposure.
- Any player who tests positive for Covid 19 should email his/her coach and Coach McKnight directly (cmcknight@tuckahoesports.org) so that TSI is aware The player may return to team activities only upon receiving a negative test and providing doctor’s note to TSI.
We encourage all coaches, assistants and players to wear a face covering/mask as needed during team events when it is not possible to practice social distancing.
Parents needing to enter the lobby will be required to wear a face covering. If granted access to the fieldhouse, a face covering will be required. At this time, we will not allow parents in the field house to view practice or lessons.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update June 30
Effective July 1, 2020, per Executive Order Richmond will move into Phase 3. This will effectively increase the capacity of the facility however our policies will remain the same. When teams practice indoors, we will continue to limit to two teams in the venue consecutively. We will also require reservations for any use of cages, pitching lanes or fields. We will still ask that players be dropped off for practice limiting that number of people in and out of the facility. Frequent cleaning and temperature checks will continue for anyone entering the training center.
Use of the facility is by reservation only, members just need to remember to call ahead. Due to the facts that most teams are at tournaments on the weekends, our facility hours may be limited. Please call ahead to confirm that we have staff on site.
We continue to practice outdoors based on field availability so please check with coaches prior to practice. At this time, temperature checks will continue for practices being held at Tuckahoe Park. Any player that has a fever or symptoms of Covid-19 or known exposure to a Covid – 19 case in the prior 14 days, should not be sent to practice or any other team function.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update June 17
Indoor Facility Practice Protocols
We wanted to provide an update regarding protocol for indoor practices given that the Governor has delayed moving into Phase III until a later date. We have revised our scheduled practices to meet our capacity limits as set by Executive Order. Teams will only have one other team in the venue while practicing. Depending on the size of the team, our limit would also allow for several one on one lessons to be taking place. When we are scheduling use of the cages, pitching lanes and field we are taking into account the number of players on each team. For this reason, if you call for a reservation, you may find that we need to suggest a time that can work. Please keep this in mind and book at least one day ahead.
To avoid congestion during the transition between teams in the evenings, we have asked all coaches to direct players that are leaving to exit from the side doors of the facility and meet you in your car. Coaches are being asked to end practices on time and we request that players do not enter the facility early. All of this will help us to avoid congestion. We ask that you speak to your players about the process so that they are aware. We will have hand sanitizer available at the exits.
Due to the capacity limits during team practices, we will again need to request that parents wait in the car as we are not able to allow congregating in the lobby area and need to meet capacity limits. We understand that this is not ideal but again is another way that we can protect staff, coaches and players.
Now that Tuckahoe Little League has begun, outdoor team practices will be scheduled around Little League schedules. Availability will be sporadic, but not guaranteed. We will continue to advise coaches when fields are available and they will relay to their team directly. Tournaments have started up and we are all excited to be competing again. We ask that you follow the guidelines set by tournament directors so that we all can continue to enjoy the sport we love.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update June 3
The Governor has announced that beginning Friday, June 5, 2020 we will be able to move into Phase II reopening. Given the guidelines, team practices both indoors and outdoors will be allowed for groups based on new expanded limits. This will also allow us to resume our second weekly practice normally held on weekends effective Saturday, June 6.
Thru June 11, 2020 TSI has use of the outdoor fields; however once TLL begins as anticipated on June 14, we will share fields with the Little League. Coach McKnight and Coach Keen will continue to work directly with each team coach to schedule time either indoor or outdoors.
Other Active TSI Events
The following protocols will continue to be followed:
Indoors
We will continue to screen and take temperatures on players, coaches and staff as they arrive. Front desk staff will wear face coverings
Signage will be posted as mandated on the entrance
We will continue to take reservations for batting cage use. Parents will be allowed in batting cage if they pass all screenings at front door. However, parents will not be able to enter the facility to watch or congregate given the guidelines.
We will continue to disinfect the facility including all high touch areas throughout the day
Outdoors
All coaches and teams must check in and pass screening. We ask that players continue to report to arrive early and report to the venue to have temps taken prior to practice.
Coaches and players will strive to maintain social distance of 10′. The guidelines allow for incidental contact as related to the sport
New limits allow for full teams to be on the field for practice or scrimmage. All players must provide their own equipment and water bottles no sharing
Parents are still asked to refrain from gathering around the backstop and must maintain 10′ distance between families.
Again, participation is all based your comfort level, please communicate with your coach and feel free to reach out if you have questions…
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update May 8
Beginning May 11th, TSI will begin to provide a small number of individual lessons to our clients. We are asking that you directly contact your instructor to set up the lesson. They will work with you to schedule your appointment. When you drop off your child for the lesson, please wait until he/she passes the temperature screening before leaving the parking lot.
In addition we will have a team member only hitting times posted on the website this weekend. Please call the facility to book your half hour time slots. We will maintain a limit of 10 people in the facility.
For everyone’s safety, we will have the following procedures in place:
*Upon entering the facility, you must stop at the front desk and have your temperature taken with a scan. (We have contactless thermometers on order that we will utilize upon arrival next week)
* Sanitize or wash your hands upon entering the facility and after your lesson.
*Maintain a 6 foot distance with clients at all times. You can wear a mask if you prefer.
*No hand-shaking or high fives
*Encourage players not to touch face during the lesson and wash hands/sanitize immediately after lesson.
*Parents will drop off at front of building-no parents will be allowed in the facility. Please make sure your clients know this.
*Players should wear batting gloves on both hands if they have them. This is recommended for picking up balls.
We look forward to seeing everyone soon and will keep you updated as the week progresses.
(Facility will also be open on Saturday, May 23rd from 9 AM – 1 PM for open hitting with 1-day advance reservation. We will be closed on Memorial Day.)
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update May 1
To those of you who chose the Full Pay Option for the 2019-2020 season, I am sorry that we failed to include information in yesterday’s message. We suspended payments in May as we were just not comfortable collecting, knowing that families making a monthly payment during this time might need some assistance.
As we laid out in the message sent yesterday, which age group your child plays in, will affect how we manage the fees moving forward. We will do our best to provide a season which may run longer than originally expected. Both monthly pay and full pay members will be treated with the same consideration regarding how we handle fees for the season. Again, we will continue to keep everyone in the loop and look to Mid May – June for us to be able to assess the remainder of the season. We appreciate your patience as we wait to see how things play out.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update Apr 30
As we approach the month of May with few definitive answers as to how the season will play out, we wanted to share a few updates we will be implementing immediately:
- We will be suspending all payments for May whether you had ACH or cc payment authorized. For those of you with ACH, you will see a charge and a credit for the same amount shown on May 1.
- Please continue to take advantage and attend our Live Zoom Calls with a host of softball and baseball mentors including coaches, players and scouts sharing thoughts on skill development in the wake of this crisis, recruiting and life as a professional… these calls have been a huge success and are also available on our website as recorded.
- Our thoughts regarding the season are still focused on rescheduling and making up the missed practices and tournaments. Most tournaments that have been cancelled are attempting to reschedule later in the summer. We are hopeful that this will be the case. Your coaches will be keeping you up to date on changes and seeking your input
- We are focused on playing in our region as much as possible to avoid travel and also the expenses associated with going out of state. We have heard from our families that this is the preference and agree.
- For those of you who were scheduled to finish with tournaments in May and June. We anticipate tournaments to be played in July and August
- For our high school teams, we are still being advised that tournaments will be played. We do anticipate changes to venues, as most colleges are still closed. We still plan to be attending as many tournaments as possible
- Implementing the Governors guidelines we are able to open our facility in limited capacity. Effective May 8, we will begin to open the venue for private lessons, batting cage, pitching mound and field reservations for team members. We will allow members to bring in 1 guest during this period at no charge. Reservations are required and can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
- We will have in place the following guidelines for all until further notice:
- We will allow no more than 10 persons in the field house at any time
- Guests will need to stay in their cars as the lobby will be closed
- Hand Sanitizer will be available upon entry and exit
- Temperatures will be taken and only those with no fever will be admitted
- All players, coaches and staff will follow 6′ social distancing guidelines
- Masks are at the discretion of the visitor but are recommended
- The venue will be cleaned and areas disinfected daily
Keep an eye out for an email later this week which will outline hours of operation and more specific details about schedules
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. We will continue to update everyone as the situation continues to develop. If you have additional questions about schedules/teams/tournaments please do not hesitate to reach out to Coach Chris McKnight, VP of Baseball and Softball at cmcknight@tuckahoesports.org.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update Mar 30
Due to the statewide mandate on 3/30 to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the TSI indoor training facility is temporarily closed and our staff will be working remotely. We will continue to provide details on our website and via email, as the situation changes.
Additionally, we have instructed coaches that lessons will cease until the new order is lifted. Coaches in the mean time will be adding content through our social media pages and we encourage members to take advantage of continued education – such as our Live Baseball and Softball Zoom Events.
Many tournaments are either being rescheduled or are still scheduled for May, June and July. Know that we are monitoring this closely and hope to see some type summer schedule go on. However, given that we do not have a schedule yet, we are offering that monthly payments can be deferred until the season resumes.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update Mar 26
Once again, we are reaching out to keep you informed of the influence that COVID 19 is having on TSI and our operations. On March 24, 2020, To limit the spread of coronavirus, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has ordered that non-essential recreation businesses close at midnight Tuesday. This new order will be in place for the next 30 days and applies to the entire Commonwealth of Virginia. This includes our venue and as such all indoor activity will cease for this one month period.
For those of you who are interested, instructors will be able to schedule private lessons utilizing the outside fields. We want to share that we have confirmed that this is permissible with Henrico County COVID-19 task force based on the under 10 person limit and the requirement to stay 6 feet apart. All coaches have been informed of these processes. Please reach out directly to your instructor to secure times and availability. Please understand this is at the discretion of our individual coaches.
At this time, we are hopeful that our season will resume and look forward to getting back. Many tournaments are either being rescheduled or are still scheduled for May, June and July. Know that we are monitoring this closely and hope to see a summer schedule go on.
We encourage players to reach out to their coach, sharing videos, seeking guidance on drills etc. Keep an eye on our social media pages as we will continue to provide good information and suggestions to keep you in the groove for when the season starts back up.
As we navigate this new landscape we want all of our families to be safe and healthy and look forward to getting back to what we all love. Thanks for your support during this time, we are thankful for the families that make up this organization!

COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update Mar 15
We would like to provide an update to all of our families. As the current situation with the Covid-19 virus continues to evolve, we have decided to alter our original plan of action as it pertains to the facility and its usage. With schools and business closing and at least the next several weeks of tournaments cancelling, we want to help mitigate any unnecessary risk to our staff and families.
- Individual lessons will still be available provided that a client still wishes to proceed. We ask that if an athlete is not feeling well that they do not attend the lesson. Our 24-hour cancellation policy will be waived during this time. If you need to cancel, please contact your instructor directly.
- Effective immediately, all team practices are cancelled from March 16th through March 22nd at minimum. As March 22nd gets closer, we will re-visit this and determine potential practices and changes going forward. Once a decision is made it will be communicated to all teams.
- We will not be taking field/cage reservations during this period – this includes members and non-members. We will only be open from 4 pm – 7 pm for individual lessons.
- With practices being cancelled, we will do our level best to make up any missed practices once schedules resume.
- Once things get back to a normal schedule, our staff and your coaches will work to get the missed tournaments rescheduled.
- All other policies previously announced remain in effect. We ask that parents drop-off their child and remain in their car. There will be no player or coaches contact to avoid contamination. Any player entering the facility will need to wash their hands or use the hand sanitizer before and after their lesson.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. We are here to answer any questions or concerns you have. Please contact us at info@tuckahoesports.org or (804) 360-3395.
COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) – Update Mar 13
Our TSI family is very important to us and in light of the current state of the COVID-19 outbreak and a state of emergency being declared for the Commonwealth of Virginia, we are implementing new procedures to keep everyone safe.
- We are disinfecting all commons areas, bathrooms, door handles, etc continually.
- Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes are available to all and we strongly encourage their use.
- We ask that parents drop off players for practices and lessons and remain in their car as a way to limit the number of people congregating.
- If your child feels sick do not bring them to practice or a lesson.
- All players should have their own drinks and NO SHARING.
- Use Common Sense!!
USSSA has adopted a “no-contact/no-handshake” policy during games. Players and coaches will avoid handshakes, fist bumps or any other contact until further notice. We would like to extend this policy to practices here at the facility as well.
We totally understand that is not optimal, but for the safety of all involved, we respectfully request you adhere to these policies for the near future.
We are not canceling team practices, classes or individual lessons at this time. We will continue to keep you updated.
