Who should attend?
All current and new players will need to attend tryouts this year.
What time should my son or daughter plan to arrive for the tryout?
We recommend arriving at least 45 minutes early to allow time to park, register, temperature checks, and get fitted for a uniform (if needed).
How is the player’s age determined for a tryout?
Softball Age Restrictions
A player’s age on December 31 determines which division that player will be eligible to play in the following year. All players must have proof of age upon registration regardless of division. Younger players may play in older divisions but not vice versa.
Baseball Age Restrictions
For next season, 2021 – 2022 Players should sign up based on their age on or before May 1, 2022
Why does TSI do uniform size measurements even before offers are extended?
We do this to save parents time from making a return trip for just measurements. New Balance representatives will be onsite to conduct the measurements. This process helps us get uniforms ordered right away and back in time for the season to begin for players who end up accepting offers.
What equipment and shoes should players bring?
Because of uncertainty in weather, baseball and softball players are asked to bring both cleats and turf/tennis shoes, plus all applicable equipment (e.g. glove, helmet, facemask).
How long will the tryout last? Should pitchers and catchers plan to stay longer?
Tryouts can last for 2-3 hours with players evaluated on hitting and defense. Pitchers and catchers should expect to stay longer for additional evaluations for their respective positions.
Will tryouts occur rain or shine?
Yes, if there is inclement weather, the entire tryout will be conducted inside our training facility.
Will parents have an opportunity to tour the facility and speak with the leadership team at TSI?
Yes, there will also be a parent meeting at the beginning of each tryout session.
When are player offers extended after tryouts? How soon do families then need to make a decision?
Players will be extended offers 1-5 days after the tryout occurs. We have a 48-hour acceptance period once an offer has been extended.
How many roster spots are there on each team?
Our baseball teams have spots for 13 players per roster and softball teams have spots for 12 players- with the exception of our high school baseball teams that can have more than 13 spots.
What if a player is out of town and unable to attend the designated tryout date?
If a player can’t make a specific tryout date, please make arrangements beforehand for a private tryout. For a private baseball tryout inquiry, please contact Chris McKnight, (804)360-3395. For a private softball tryout inquiry, please contact Lisa Smith (973)945-5116.
