As a former coach at the collegiate and pro level, I can attest to the benefit of players working 1-on-1 with instructors through private lessons. Whether it’s hitting, pitching or fielding, focused time with a professional instructor can help a player achieve his or her skill development goals.
Private Lessons Advice #1: Take Advantage of the Offseason
Winter is a great time to begin private lessons for your son or daughter. More specifically, the time right after the holidays affords the player and instructor valuable time to identify areas of the player’s game that need improvement – while also giving the players enough time before they begin their season to make the necessary adjustments.
Private Lessons Advice #2: Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late
We usually get a lot of requests for lessons two to three weeks before the season begins, and quite honestly players are looking for that 3-week period to turn into a great hitter or pitcher – with baseball and softball, it’s just not going to happen.
Baseball and softball are games of repetition and 1-on-1 instruction is a great way to repeat as well as reinforce.
Private Lessons Advice #3: Recognize Lessons as a Continuous Project
Investing time in training sessions is what helps athletes prepare best for competition. Our instructors are dedicated experts when it comes to maximizing each player’s individual skills. The player must understand though that private lessons are a continuous project.
Lessons are not a quick fix where you become a superstar overnight. Professional players work on their skills year-round.
Creating consistency through a lesson schedule is a long term project that players (and parents) need to be prepared for.
Private Lessons Advice #4: Ask Questions
Find out about quality instructors in your area by asking around and then contact prospective instructors with your questions. If you are interested in learning more about Tuckahoe Sports’ lesson program, please feel free to call me at 804-360-3395 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. If private lessons don’t fit into your schedule, we also host a variety of classes during the year.
I will be happy to answer your questions.
