The Tuckahoe Sports non-profit mission is based on introducing boys and girls to the sport of Baseball and softball at our state of the art facility. Throughout the years we have continued to fulfill this mission through partnerships that allow us to reach this audience.
Through camps, clinics and classes either free or steeply discounted as well as access to our facility, we touch those that might not otherwise have a chance to experience the sport that we love!
Our summer programs include Police Athletic League visits to Tuckahoe Park where our staff provides equipment and an introduction to the sport by our TSI staff. On these outings there can be upwards of 500 campers that visit the park on those scheduled days. This also provides an opportunity for us to invite our TSI partners such as Atlantic Union Bank to provide volunteers who also get to share their love of the sport with the kids.
Throughout the year we also work with multiple little leagues as well as schools and other youth associations to offer access to the facility during inclement weather or throughout the winter months when outdoor fields are closed. Equipment is often something that individual youth need to participate and we meet as many of those needs as possible.
Some of our partners include Henrico County, Tuckahoe Little League, Police Athletic League, Metropolitan Business League and other non profits we offer our time and talents by participating in several annual initiatives including Summer Camp, Challenger Day and Educational clinics for those volunteering as coaches in either Softball or Baseball.
Challenger Day
Challenger Day is an annual event established in 2012, that supports 250+ Henrico County Public Schools exceptional education students in grades K-5 from over 30 different classrooms. Sponsored by Tuckahoe Sports, Inc., it provides a day of baseball games, skills training, sportsmanship, team building, and fun! All students play a game of Challenger/Buddy ball, while students with physical disabilities play on a special, fully adaptive “Challenger” field that was made possible by a public private partnership between Henrico County and Tuckahoe Sports, Inc.
Tuckahoe Sports, Inc. sponsors Challenger Day, assisted by three event partners: Henrico Education Foundation, Henrico Recreation and Parks, and Tuckahoe Little League. Challenger Day also would not be possible without the volunteer and financial support of community and corporate organizations that include (but are not limited to!) Atlantic Union Bank, Capital One - US Card Supply Chain Solutions, Caring Canines, First Citizens Bank, Glen Allen High School, HCPS Adaptive PE Department, RCG Group, Richmond Flying Squirrels, Thrivent Financial, and University of Richmond Spiders Baseball. We welcome additional groups or organizations that would like to get involved. Please reach out to Lesa Williams, Executive Director to discuss how your can be part of this special day. lwilliams@tuckahoesports.org
Challenger Day is an offshoot of the Challenger Division of Little League Baseball, a league for children with cognitive and physical disabilities. The program helps provide participants with some of the benefits of athletic competition: exercise, socialization, teamwork, sportsmanship and self-esteem. Tuckahoe Park features a Challenger Field, adapted to meet the needs of this audience with a special surface that accommodates wheelchairs and other disabilities. This addition to the park was made thru a public private partnership between Henrico County and Tuckahoe Sports.

TSI hosts multiple events during the year with TSI staff volunteering to share their expertise on baseball and softball. A staple on the Police Athletice League summer camp schedule, groups of 400-500 campers per day arrive at the park ready to have some fun and learn more about the sport. TSI is supported by partners including Atlantic Union Bank, Virginia Credit Union and Dicks Sporting Goods which assist with either equipment or volunteers who assist during the day.
With a focus on providing opportunities for underprivileged youth to participate in the sport of baseball/softball, we work to develop programming that can provide access thru educational clinics held at the TSI training facility or in the neighborhoods were a need exists. We focus on introduction and access to the sport and have requests throughout the year to provide our services.
Tuckahoe Little League
Tuckahoe Little League continues to work hand in hand with TSI to develop and educate both players and Coaches thru a variety of programs. By providing use of the space, clinics for both kids and adults as well as access to the training facility thru discounted memberships and reduced use fees, Tuckahoe Little League is a consistent recipient of our nonprofit outreach.
