2024 – 2025 Season Recap
In 2024 – 2025, our Admin Staff and Coaches recognized a need for a Home School Baseball Program on the western side of Richmond, Virginia. After many discussions with parents in the home community, TSI launched our Home School Program with a Middle School Aged Team (6th Grade to 8th Grade). Josh Youngman was named Head Coach of the new team, with Scott Berger and Mike Cowgill filling in the rolls of Assistant Coach. Tryouts were held in late August, with the team beginning a Fall Developmental Practice Season soon after. The fall saw the boys participate in 15 practices and a scrimmage to cap off the season. This allowed our staff to assess the needs of each player and give critical instruction prior to the start of the Spring Season.
Following the fall scrimmage in October, players were invited to join the Mid-Atlantic Orioles Travel Program for the Winter Specialty Groups. These sessions saw players attend1 hour clinics focused on Infield, Outfield, and Catching with other players in their age group. The Specialty Groups are led by Chris McKnight (Infield), Josh Youngman (Outfield), and Derek Faucher (Catching) with all of our Travel and Home School coaches assisting in the instruction. This gives all our players the opportunity to learn new skills and hear from a variety of skilled instructors. These sessions ran from Mid-November to Mid-December, wrapping up prior to the Holiday Season.
Players were invited back to the facility for practice in the second week of February to gear up for Spring Games. This gave players a month of intense direction and inner squad play to prepare the boys for the step competition they would face over the 2-month span of games. The Spring Season itself began on 3/18 against the Benedictine Middies. The 18-game schedule included a variety of competition levels and featured well known programs such as St. Chris, CVHAA Patriots, and Life Christian Academy.
With 2 games left in our schedule, the Home School O’s sit at an 9-6-1 record. The boys have shown great resilience, and we could not be prouder of how they represented the program in its first season. They are building the foundation of what we envisioned with every game, and we are excited to see how they finish out the season. These players and their families will continue to be the bedrock of the Mid-Atlantic Orioles Home School Program for years to come!
