2023 Challenger Day at TSI
Each year TSI comes together with the Henrico Education Foundation, I Have A Dream Foundation – Richmond, Henrico County Department of Recreation and Parks, Tuckahoe Little League, and Henrico County Public Schools to host Challenger Day. This annual event introduces over 300 students with significant disabilities to the fundamentals of baseball and softball.
On Wednesday, October 25th, students from over 20 Henrico County Elementary Schools were entertained with games, crafts, therapy dogs, mascots, and game stations. TSI’s indoor field was transformed with an obstacle course, parachutes, bowling, soccer, and other games with kids rotating through the facility.
Planning starts months ahead with a dedicated team of volunteers (including representatives from Tuckahoe Sports partner and event sponsor Atlantic Union Bank) who look forward to this day.
Starting in 2024, I Have A Dream Foundation – Richmond has passed the torch to Tuckahoe Sports to organize and manage the Challenger Day event for 2024. TSI has partnered with I Have a Dream Foundation for 12 years. Pretty exciting! Tentative date for the 2024 Challenger Day is Wed 10/16. Rain date would be Thu 10/17.

Challenger Day is an offshoot of the Challenger Division of Little League Baseball. The Challenger Division is a league for children with cognitive and physical disabilities. In addition, this program provides participants with some of the benefits of athletic competition: exercise, socialization, teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-esteem.
